25 IN 2015 - #9 Go Busking!!

Hello!!

So does this count for meeting this goal this year? When I was out with my colleagues we sort of gatecrashed a buskers song... and random conversation occurred... plus awkward moments where I had to dodge to avoid stray spittle from landing in my eye as this lad was more than a little tipsy...

I have accomplished a few other of my goals for this year and I am excited to share with y'all real soon. Plus Hallelujah I now have a laptop! FINALLY!

Many blessings upon your households!

Hey there!

I can not believe we have made it to three months into the year already! It feels like just the other day that we were shouting Happy New Year into the sleepy ears of our loved ones! But now we are saying Happy Easter! Time is speeding by! But I thank God for keeping us alive and well till now :)

This year has been extremely busy hence the lack of blogging, but I am back my brothers and sisters! TMQK will likely become a melting pot of all things... Lifestyle, advice, fashion, food,  (mmmmm fried plantain...!) fitness and natural hair musings, as well as anything else that tickles my fancy. I hope to stick to a consistent schedule too.... Pray for me... :-)

That leads me on to the blog post for today!!

This year is all about accomplishing the little niggling things that I have always wanted to try and do and to also step outside of my comfort zone.

Tickled Pink by Wedding Bliss

*da dum da dum, daaaa dum da dummm* *here comes the blog post all typed in black and white*
This year has been a beautiful year of love and weddings! So far I've been to three wonderful weddings with another one on the way!

I recently attended a Nigerian traditional wedding of one of my college buddies. It was such a joyful day! It truly is wonderful to see the people you have seen grow up step into this whole new phase of their life. One day by grace it will be my turn... eeekk! But my knight has got to find me first... but that is another story for another blog post...

My outfit for the traditional wedding was far from traditional Nigerian  wear as I intended to go down the traditional route for the couples white wedding.

On a recent expedition to River Island to see if I can spend the gift voucher I have had for almost 2 years, I found this bright pink long sleeved midi dress on SALE for only £12!! O the joy that filled my soul!

I teamed the dress with my beaded collar from Dorothy Perkins, suede wedges from New Look and my mums box bag which added a vintage touch.

This outfit was simple and so comfortable! Plus the fact I got it on sale was an extra whoop!!

Its been a while since I last posted. I was all the way in bonnie old Wales where there was more sheep than good reception! I hope everyone is all good though?

Trend Watch: The Little White Dress (LWD)

Hey Up!

Welcome to another weekly fashion dose of TMQ!

We have all heard of the Little Black Dress (LBD) but what about the Little White Dress (LWD)?

The LWD is fast becoming a fashion must for the summer. For a modesty conscious lady a Midi White Dress (MWD) is the perfect alternative!

Scroll down to see how MWD's have been worn this season.

   Which style would you wear?

Which style is your favourite?

Get the Look!

This MWD from ASOS is the perfect addition to any wardrobe and at £40.00 is an inexpensive investment.

I love the contrast of crisp whites and bright colours, hence why I have teamed the MWD with the bright coral clutch and sandals from New Look.

However, this MWD can also be paired with simple black or nude accessories. The beauty of the MWD is that it is very versatile and can be tailored to suit your own style. :)

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has followed and supported The Modest Quirk be it via Facebook, Instagram, Bloglovin or just through your words of encouragement! Really appreciate you all!

God bless you, and until the next post, have a lovely week

STYLE FIX - DENIM LOVERS ONLY!

Akwaaba!!

Calling all denim lovers everywhere, this post is for yall!

Since its invention in 1873 by Levis Strauss *pushes back nerdy glasses* denim has been a wardrobe staple for both young and old(er), guy and girl.

I love denim, due to its practicality and it is very versatile. It can be worn for a casual day out or dressed up for a classy night out.

The only problem I have had is with denim skirts and dresses. It is always a struggle to find denim skirts which look good, but are also a decent length. However, once I find one it becomes my BFF and I find ways to work it into every outfit!

I channelled my inner denimista (yes, i make up random words at a whim lol) and threw together this outfit for a lunch date;

Leather Jacket and skirt - from Miss Selfridges, Bag - my mothers wardrobe :), Boots and denim top - emm.. purchase location unknown (had them for a while, totally forgotten where I purchased them from)!

Scroll down to see how this good old wardrobe staple is being styled in 'the streets'.

Hope you have had a great week!

Irrespective of the week that you have had, or the season that you are passing through, remember that God has got you and all things will eventually work out for good!

Until the next post

Designer Spotlight: Elie Saab

Hey Lovelies!

Are you looking for a beautiful, stylish, yet modest gown to wear to a prom, ball or a fancy shmancy black tie event? Then look no further than the fabulous designer Elie Saab.

I recently discovered the popular Lebanese designer and I must admit; with his attention to detail and impeccable craftsmanship, I have fallen head over heels in LOVE

I am captivated by his exquisite pieces, which just call out to me - "you know you want me, just sell a few organs and you can purchase me!". Just a smidgen OTT I know...Sigh...one day eh..!! But in the mean time I can admire them from afar.

Although he is not an exclusively 'modest' dress designer, his collections have a few pieces which cater to the modern fashionista. Check out a few of my favourites from his 2013 and 2012 collection below.

Which one from each row is your favourite? Leave a comment below :)

 Ivory Indulgence

Elie Saab uses intricate beading to add a timeless glamour to his pieces.

Patterned Perfection

Elie Saab's attention to detail transcends across all of his collections. You will know an Elie Saab when you see it!

The sweeping lengths and covered arms are the perfect touch for the                          modest chica!

50 FREE things to do in London

*Sings* "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I LOVE London SO!!!"

A brief interruption to my regularly scheduled blogging:

For all my fellow Londoners, or visitors to the big city, check out the link below for 50 things to do in London for FREE!

This appeals to me because I am a bargain hunter and what can be more bargainous (is that even a real word?) than free things! I am planning to go to the science museum this weekend, apparently I can take a tour in a cockroach suit?! Can't wait! :D

Why not visit a few of the places on the list or discover your own fun, weird and wonderful things to do in London. I would love to know whether you tied anything on the list and if you have anywhere that you would recommend that I should try.

Life is too short to not explore, discover and create!

Muchos Love
